This is one of the most famous streets in Rome. It connects Via del Corso wit Piazza di Spagna, where you can find the famous Spanish Steps. Did you know that Via dei Condotti is also one of the most expensive streets in the city? Not only you can find there all the luxurious fashion labels but also apartments in this street are super expensive. Let us take you there for a short window shopping on Segways!
The name of the streets, Via dei Condotti, comes from the pipes (in Italian “conduturre”). These pipes were bringing water from the reservoir at Pincio, the hill above the Spanish Steps. Using these pipes they were able to bring enough water to this district called Campo Marzio. Earlier they called this street Via della Trinità. It was the main access to the church called Trinità dei Monti at the top f the Spanish Steps
Antico Caffè Greco
This historic café takes its place in Via dei Condotti 86. The founder of this place was Nicola della Maddalena. He was an Italian-Levantines. It was an ancient community of Italian origins with its roots for centuries in present-day Turkey, Greece before. That’s from where the café took its name. In the inner rooms of this café, you can admire more than 300 pieces of art. It is one of the largest private galleries in the world open to the public.
Via del Corso
Do you like shopping but the stores in Via dei Condotti are too expensive for you? It is the same for us:D! You don’t have to worry. Italy is famous for fashion. Everyone can afford to spend some cash on clothes here. The most famous shopping street is called Via del Corso. It runs all the way from Piazza del Popolo to Piazza Venezia. In this street, you can find hundreds of stores at reasonable prices. You can spend there all day long and enjoy a little shopping spree:)!
At the end of the street, you can see probably the most famous staircase in the world. It is always covered with hundreds of tourists from all around the world. Spanish steps belong to the most visited city sights in Rome. Let’s have a little exercise and climb up the steps. From the top, where you can see the obelisk, there is a beautiful view of the city and, f course, you can also see the whole Via dei Condotti from there. Remember you can’t eat drink r even sit n the steps. Carabinieri, the Italian police officers, could fine you up to 300 Euros for doing that.
Did you know that there is a metro station not too far from Via dei Condotti? You can find the entrance in the little street on the left side f the Spanish steps. There is also a lift which takes you to the top of the Spanish Steps. If you are too tired after walking all day long in Rome. You can cheat a little and take the lift instead of running up the Steps on foot:)! In the square with the Spanish Steps there is also a public restroom. It is always good to remember these spots which can sometimes save your lives:)!
This area is very busy during the day. If you prefer fewer crowds come here in the evening or later in the night. There many beautiful narrow streets.
